You clicked on it. You know what you’ve gotten yourself into by doing so. I’m cleaning out my photo roll and noticed I had screenshot more than a few titles; the time for fleshed out full reviews has passed. Sorry. It is what it is. You’re getting whatever this is instead.
Let’s go.

This is one of those movies that I really wished I could’ve seen on the big screen. Reviews by most folks professionally and personally were rather lukewarm. I loved this so much that if I were to get a Disney tattoo any time soon, it’d be my girl Ember getting a feature because our tempers are very similar similar and it’s comforting to be seen in that way. I sobbed through the end. I love this movie.

I didn’t watch ‘Birdbox’ when it first came out. I watched it recently when I first started feeling poorly. And then watched ‘Barcelona’ just a few days later. Personally, I loved ‘Barcelona’ over ‘Birdbox’ but only because the Seers and their relationship to the aliens was so fascinating to me.

What the actual fuck is this movie? I love Ari Aster. I hated this movie, except for the play-animation sequence. And I think the performances are incredible. I would never watch this again though.

I have strong feelings about robots and robot movies. I generally don’t like them or I find them horrifying. I watched this movie starting at 5:30am and was sobbing into my coffee at the finish. It’s not a groundbreaking film, even for its genre, but it is terribly sweet and cursedly hopeful. I loved it.

For a lot of folks, this is an Xmas tradition, and after finally watching it in 2023, I understand the argument for why. I’d argue it’s an Xmas movie in the way that ‘Diehard’ is one and no, I shan’t be expounding on that particular point further. Instead let’s talk about HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS MOVIE AND JUDY GARLAND IS! When they say this is a Valentine from Minnelli to Garland, they’re not kidding. She looks absolutely incredible any time she’s on screen. For a long time, I could only see her as Dorothy because of what a grip ‘Oz’ had on me as a child. But I’m gonna watch this every Xmas now because Garland, like the rest of us are, was so many different things.

I debated talking about this one because of the conversation it started about the demonization of people we are currently at war with/aiding a war against. I still included it because the cruelty is the point, the misinformation that is revealed is the point. It’s not subtle. This is not a subtle story. The people who will watch this movie are not generally the type of people to be indoctrinated at the conclusion of it. If you’ve managed to avoid it this long, you’re fine to skip it. Plenty of other things to watch.

I’ve actually watched all of the ‘John Wick’ movies several times. I love them. Are action movies my jam? No, not really. Revenge films can be, but rarely. The reason I love this trilogy is because they are horror movies. John Wick is a serial killer with a singular purpose. He’s the Boogeyman to the Bad Guys. The Baba Yaga. He killed 3 men in a bar with a pencil. You’re welcome to disagree, but you’ll still be wrong.
A parting note: I generally don’t care for g*ns but the way John Wick/Keanu Reeves handles them makes me feel a type of way I’m never prepared for during a rewatch.

I watched this right before the ramp of its little press tour and what the fuck was this movie? People talked about really positively about it which was so perplexing because the ending was like a big, wet fart.

The Nicolas Cage project continues! This was cheesy and silly and a fun one if you need something to half-heartedly pay attention to while doom-scrolling or washing dishes or whatever.

Remember how mad people were about this movie when it came out? The Alien franchise isn’t dear to me—it’s fine and all, I just like my horror to be less sci-fi and more spooky possessions and thoughtful gore—so I didn’t have any strong expectations going in. Especially not eleven years after its debut. It was fine. One viewing is enough.

I fucking love ‘Oppenheimer’ and have rewatched it a few times already. It’s so romantic and awful and terrible. Cillian Murphy is just incredible. I want to get an Oppenheimer-inspired tattoo. It would be a really great knuckle tattoo as well but I don’t know if I’m there yet. Maybe for Forty.
So there you are or aren’t or go or went. I’m gonna go look at tattoo portfolios and check hockey schedules for the upcoming week.
