July 2024

July was mostly grand! I say ‘mostly’ because a few unfortunate things happened, ranging from losing a really cool piece of jewelry I was literally wearing for the first time ever despite having it in my collection for years to ‘becoming the main character’ in a tiny corner of the internet for some time all because I dared to say that a movie wasn’t scary like it had been advertised—more on this later.

I am officially discharged from physical therapy for my cat-bite-injury! I have basically the full use of my dominant hand again and I’m very grateful.

I got out of the house and out of town more this month! If you’ve been reading for some time, you know that trying new restaurants is one of my favorite activities to engage in. My favorites were The Hidden Dumpling House and Pig Latin—my drink at Pig Latin was called ‘Foam Party’ and came with a fruity foam on top and is served with an inflatable flamingo that you get to take home!

On the entertainment front, two movies I saw and enjoyed this month without any sort of controversy were ‘MaXXXine’ and ‘Love Lies Bleeding.’ While ‘MaXXXine’ is not the strongest of the trilogy, I think it finished things up nicely. Mia Goth is a great Horror darling and I hope she does more in the genre. ‘Love Lies Bleeding,’ (wo)man oh (wo)man! I did myself a disservice for not going to theaters to see this because the third act NEEDS a real big screen! The whole movie is very gay and chock full of magical realism and at the very least you owe it to yourself to check it out purely for Ed Harris’ extensions.

I started to participate in ‘World Watercolor Month’ this year but definitely fell off the prompts after about a week. Instead of painting I started tackling the laundry list of tasks I’ve had to put off since early May! I did still get some painting in and am currently obsessed with Andrea’s blueberry tutorial.

I still can’t believe August came so soon. I normally never look forward to the coming Autumn-and-then-Winter but I’m so ready for the rain and things to cool off, for Flames and Wrangler Hockey to start back up, for Halloween and Xmas too.

See you again soon.
