August 2023

You know, I did actually get the draft for August started at the very beginning of September. And and now September’s wrapped up and ohmygodhowdiditgettobeOctober? Things get busy and chaotic as they often do.

In August, I tried a bunch of new-to-me restaurant spots here in Modesto—the highlight was definitely the lengua taco from Tacos el Bandito! It took me a few tries to actually get one, so if you love offal like I do? You gotta try and be quick and lucky.

Always catching up on my TBR stack, I finished a short and weird book (“The Alex Crow”) and finally tucked into “To Paradise.” Of all that I watched last month, the heavy hitters were “Gaslight” and “Bones and All.” “Gaslight” was fantastic—Angela Lansbury was serving cunt like the rent was due! I don’t think I’ve ever seen her YOUNG so it was a real delight. “Bones and All” is a love letter written in entrails and the stench of sweat, fear, and survival. If you like your horror to be melancholy and romantic, you’ll enjoy yourself.

I’m always ready for cooler temperatures by the end of August, but it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to Summer. Thankfully Halloween is here to soothe the pain.
